Does DMOZ have a place in search? »

I just read the blog post respect for DMOZ at the DMOZ blog. The anonomus editor glippitt compares DMOZ to Google and Wikipedia. This editor compares DMOZ to Google and Wikipedia and provides an argument for why DMOZ is a better resource for information about Somalia. Glippitt final claim is that DMOZ is useful for [...]

New DMOZ Resource zone »

I have been requested to warn about an allegedly fake DMOZ resource zone. However I will not do so, actually I think that webmasters would be better served with more forums and blogs discussing DMOZ issues.

The Microsoft Yahoo! merger »

Ok, the wheels are moving and the Microsoft Yahoo merger will take place or the two companies will find other ways to co-operate. It is one or the other something is happening.

DMOZ clean up! »

After I picked one random DMOZ category, and blogged about three sites that shouldn’t be listed, it appears like some editor in charge has removed 10 of the original 26 sites listed.
These sites are gone:

Baby Zone: Preconception
Bankhead Fertility House
Beloved Pages
Fertility Rhythms
Getting Pregnant
Getting Pregnant

Pregnant Aid

Rubella and Pregnancy

Trying to Conceive

Wish 2 Conceive

It was not me who [...]

At this very moment there are people writing plugins for Wordpress and other popular content management systems to do this automatically. [...]

Wikipedia has added “nofollow” on external links. »

The Wikipedia is now offically unable to deal with the huge amount of spammers that target their articles, they have decided to add the rel=”nofollow” attribute to all external links! This is not a unexpected move, I had expected that Wikipedia would decleare defeat this soon. I sort of expected that the huge community of [...]

It is time to bribe a DMOZ editor »

This is getting old, but I guess it is still worth mentioning. It is time to resubmit to DMOZ. Due to the massive server failure og last year, all unreviewed sites got deleted from the editing queue. As a concequence there are a lot of editors just sitting and waiting for new site suggestions. Before [...]

Still Waiting for DMOZ? »

Due to internal problems DMOZ still has not opened up for submissions from the public. “The Best of The Web”, which claims to be the oldest internet directory is taking advantage of this situation. Unless BOTW makes a partership with Google or one of the other major players in the search field I would expect [...]

Transforming The Open Directory into a Trusted Data Source, part 1 »

If I were to restructure the Open Directory I would almost start from scratch. I love the idea behind the Open Directory, yes I truly believe that human could do it better than computers, but then things would have to change.
The largest problem with the ODP is the many editors and the editor community itself. [...]
